Non-destructive training allows first responders to participate in emergency response drills/exercises to be conducted to acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform critical tasks that cannot be taught by textbook. These skills are learned through realistic and repetitive hands-on scenario-based practice. This helps to create a realistic training environment that is needed for all possible facility type rescues and emergency responses. UMW allows non-destructive training only on University property. Some examples of non-destructive training may include: high-angle rope rescue, rope access, confined space entry, fall protection, or search and rescue.
